Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video explains why Vectric Aspire V12 displays the “Allowance Offset Failed” warning when creating a pocket toolpath. It demonstrates how an incorrectly large pocket allowance, rather than the tool itself, causes the failure, and shows that changing the allowance to a valid value generates the toolpath successfully. It also highlights how negative allowance values cut outside the selected vector.
- Create a pocket from a 1-inch circle and select a ¼-inch end mill.
- Set the pocket allowance to an incorrect value (e.g., 22 inches).
- Click Calculate – the warning “Allowance Offset Failed” appears.
- Change the pocket allowance to a reasonable value (e.g., 0.22 inches).
- Click Calculate again – the toolpath is generated and moves inward from the selected vector by the specified allowance.
- Optionally, set the pocket allowance to a negative value (e.g., -2 inches) and calculate – the toolpath is generated but cuts outside the circle by that distance.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- “Allowance Offset Failed” usually means the offset size is invalid for the selected tool and vector geometry, not necessarily a wrong tool.
- Large positive allowance values can exceed the tool/geometry limits and cause the failure.
- Negative pocket allowance values generate a toolpath that cuts outside the selected vector.
- Always double-check your allowance numbers before calculating to avoid unexpected toolpaths or errors.
