Why the Allowance Offset Failed in the Vectric Software

This video explains the “Allowance Offset Failed” warning in Vectric Aspire V12. The error is caused by an invalid pocket allowance value, not by the selected tool. Positive and negative allowance values are demonstrated to show how they affect toolpath placement.

  1. Create a 1-inch circle to use as the pocket boundary.
  2. Select a 1/4-inch end mill as the cutting tool.
  3. Enter an excessive pocket allowance (e.g., 22 inches).
  4. Click Calculate and observe the “Allowance Offset Failed” warning.
  5. Change the pocket allowance to a reasonable value (e.g., 0.22 inches) and recalculate – the toolpath now generates successfully.
  6. Optionally, enter a negative allowance (e.g., -2 inches) and recalculate – the toolpath is generated, but cuts outside the original vector by that amount.
  • The “Allowance Offset Failed” warning indicates the offset size is invalid, not necessarily the tool.
  • A pocket allowance larger than the geometry or feasible machining boundary will cause the calculation to fail.
  • Positive allowance values shift the toolpath inward from the selected vector by the specified amount.
  • Negative allowance values shift the toolpath outward from the selected vector by the specified amount.
  • Always double-check numeric entries to avoid errors or unintended cut locations.
