How to use the array copy tool in Vectric software | Offset and Layout Tools
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Array Copy tool automatically creates multiple copies of a selected vector and arranges them in a grid defined by row/column counts. Spacing can be controlled by either edge-to-edge gaps or offsets relative to the previous copy. Additional options enable symmetry (mirror/rotate), row/column displacement, and grouping of the resulting copies.
- Select the vector or vectors to array.
- Go to the Drawing tab → Offset and Layout → Array Copy.
- Review the Selected Object Size fields. These report the selection size and can be copied for calculations elsewhere.
- Enter the Number of Rows and Number of Columns (Y and X respectively).
- Choose spacing mode:
- Gap: Enter X/Y values for the edge-to-edge gap between copies.
- Offset: Enter X/Y values for the displacement of each copy relative to the preceding copy.
- Click Copy to generate the array.
- Optionally, use the Symmetry buttons to mirror or rotate copies within the pattern.
- Optionally, enter Row Displacement or Column Displacement values to shift every other row or column.
- Optionally, enable Group Copies so all new copies are grouped and move as one object.
- Click Copy again if using any of the additional options.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- Gap measures edge-to-edge spacing between copies; Offset measures the position change from one copy to the next.
- Symmetry buttons can be toggled in different combinations to create intricate mirrored or rotated patterns.
- Row/column displacement shifts alternate rows or columns by the specified X or Y value.
- Without Group Copies, every generated vector remains independent and can be moved separately.
- With Group Copies enabled, all copies are combined into a single group that moves together.
- Press Ctrl+Z to undo an array if you need to adjust settings or return to a previous preview.
- The Array Copy tool works well for laying out repeated signs, badges, or other objects quickly in a grid.
