How to use the measure tool in Vectric software | Editing Objects

This video demonstrates how to use the Measure tool in Vectric software to obtain precise dimensional and geometric information about models or vector drawings. It covers the two main modes: measuring between two points and inspecting individual span/contour properties of vectors.

Steps

  1. Open the Measure tool:
    Go to the Design tab → Edit Objects → Measure tool.

  2. Measure between two points (default mode):

    • Click a starting point in the 2D view.
    • Click a second point (snapping options apply).
    • The form displays:
      • Distance between points
      • Angle
      • X distance
      • Y distance
      • First point X/Y coordinates
      • Cursor position (updates live as you move the mouse)

  3. Inspect span/contour properties:

    • Switch to the span/contour mode in the Measure tool form (the latter half of the panel).
    • Click directly on a vector span in the 2D view.
    • The form displays information about that specific entity:
      • Span type (line, arc, or bezier curve)
      • Span length
      • Start point X/Y and end point X/Y

  4. View contour-wide information (for a selected vector):

    • The form also shows:
      • Total area of the selected vector
      • Perimeter (total length of all spans forming the shape)
      • Number of spans in the shape

  5. Get centre point and radius for arcs/circles:

    • Draw a circle (or select an arc).
    • Enter the Measure tool and click on the arc/circle.
    • The form now also displays the centre point (X/Y) and the radius.

Key Points / Warnings

  • The Measure tool is located under Edit Objects in the Design tab.
  • Use snapping options for more accurate point-to-point measurements.
  • Span type is reported as line, arc, or bezier.
  • The centre point and radius fields remain greyed out until you select an arc or a circular entity.
  • Cursor position values update dynamically as you move the mouse in the 2D view.
  • The contour properties (area, perimeter, number of spans) apply to the entire selected vector, not just the clicked span.
