How to create a cross section vector in Vectric software | Model Editing Tools
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates how to create a cross-section vector in Vectric software. The tool captures the exact profile of a 3D part, making it useful for analyzing scanned data, restoration work, or generating profiles for machining. The workflow applies to both VCarve and Aspire, with minor menu differences.
- Access the tool:
- VCarve: Design tab → 3D Model Tools → Create Cross-Section Vector.
- Aspire: Modeling Tools → Create Cross-Section Vector.
- Click the tool to enter cross-section mode.
- Click a start point on the 3D model (in either 2D or 3D view).
- Click an end point to define the cross-section line/section.
- Right-click to exit the tool and generate the vector.
- Move the generated vector away from the model for inspection.
- Rotate the vector using the
0or9keyboard shortcuts to view the exact profile.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- The cross-section vector reflects the exact profile along the line you define.
- Points can be selected in 2D or 3D view.
- Right-click (not Enter/Escape) completes the vector creation.
- Use
0or9to rotate the view and inspect the profile. - In VCarve, the resulting vector can be used with the molding toolpath.
- In Aspire, the vector can also be used to create a new model.
- This tool is especially useful for scanned data and restoration projects.
