How to draw a rectangle in Vectric software | Creating Vectors

Overview

This video demonstrates how to create and edit rectangles in Vectric Aspire V12 using the Draw Rectangle tool. It covers freehand drawing, precise dimension entry, corner type switching, and editing existing rectangles.

Steps

1. Go to the Design tab > Create Vectors and click the Draw Rectangle icon.
2. The Draw Rectangle form opens.
3. Click and drag in the job space with the left mouse button to draw a rectangle. Release to apply it.
4. Anchor point depends on drag direction:
   • Drag right/down → anchored from top-left.
   • Drag left/down → anchored from top-right.
   • Drag left/up → anchored from lower-right.
   • Drag right/up → anchored from lower-left.
5. To draw another rectangle at the exact same size, simply click and drag again.

Editing Dimensions

6. After drawing, click or hover over any corner to display the Width and Height fields.
   • Type a value and press Enter to set either dimension.
7. For proportional scaling:
   • Hold the Alt key while dragging a corner handle.
8. For quick field entry:
   • Click a corner handle, type a value, press Tab, then enter the second value.

Adjusting Single Sides

9. Use the mid-edge handles to modify only the width or only the height.
   • Hovering shows the corresponding value.
   • Click and drag, or type a precise value and press Enter.

Changing Corner Type

10. Click the corner-type handle (the round handle near a corner) and drag toward the center.
    • Drag to switch between:
      • Square
      • Radius external
      • Radius internal (dragging past square)
11. Set a precise radius by entering a value in the field that appears, or by updating the value in the Draw Rectangle form.

Editing After Creation

12. In normal transform mode, you can still drag move handles, edge handles, and corner handles to adjust the size and shape.
13. If the rectangle has not been distorted (e.g., converted to a different object type), select it and press E to reopen the Draw Rectangle form for further edits.

Key Points / Warnings

• Use Ctrl+Z to undo multiple rectangles.
• Dimensions display live as you drag.
• The software recognizes the shape as a rectangle only if it hasn’t been altered/morphed; otherwise the E shortcut may not open the rectangle form.
• Alt+drag constrains proportions.
• Tab allows quick entry of width then height without lifting your hands from the keyboard.
• Corner type can be changed visually by dragging, or numerically by entering a radius value.
