How to align objects in Vectric software | Transforming Objects

Overview

This video demonstrates how to use the Align Selected Objects tool in Vectric Aspire V12. It covers aligning objects to the material, to other selected vectors, to inside/outside edges, relative alignment, and evenly spacing multiple objects. It also shows how to enable quick access to align tools from the Drawing tab.

Steps

1. Open the Align Selected Objects tool from the Transform/Align tools.
2. Align to material: Select an object and use the alignment buttons to center it horizontally/vertically relative to the material or worksheet.
3. Align to a selection:
   • Click the first vector.
   • Hold Shift and left-click the reference vector (so it becomes the last selected object).
   • Choose alignment options to center or position relative to that reference vector.
4. Align to inside/outside edges:
   • Select the object, then shift-click the reference vector.
   • Use the Inside Edge options to align to the inner top/bottom/left/right.
   • Use the Outside Edge options to align to the outer edges.
5. Relative alignment: From the object’s current position, click an alignment option (e.g., Right) to move it relative to its previous location.
6. Space selection evenly:
   • Select multiple vectors using a left-click drag.
   • Use the Vertical Space or Horizontal Space buttons to distribute equal spacing between them.
7. Use the Inside Last Vector option:
   • Enable Inside Last Vector.
   • Select all objects, then shift-click a final reference vector.
   • Click horizontal or vertical spacing to distribute the selected objects evenly between the reference object and the last selected vector.
8. Show common tools on the Drawing tab:
   • Check Show Common Tools on Drawing Tab and close the dialog.
   • The alignment options now appear under Edit Objects in the Drawing tab.

Key Points / Warnings

• Align to material uses the extents of the material/worksheet, not other objects.
• When aligning to a selection, the last selected vector is the reference object.
• Inside Edge aligns within the reference vector’s boundaries; Outside Edge aligns beyond its boundaries.
• Relative alignment is performed from the object’s current position, not the material origin.
• The Space Selection options create equal spacing between selected objects, not from the material edges.
• With Inside Last Vector enabled, spacing is calculated between the first selection group and the final reference vector.
• Use Ctrl+Z to undo an alignment and reset the object’s position.
