Job Setup Rotation in Vectric Software

This video demonstrates how to design a job in landscape/horizontal orientation and cut it in portrait/vertical orientation using Vectric software. It covers three different methods: manually swapping job dimensions and rotating vectors, using the Sheets feature, and using a temporary Rotary setup with flip design enabled.

Option 1 — Manual Rotate of Job Setup and Vectors

  1. Start with the original landscape job setup and create/position the vectors, e.g. text on its own layer.
  2. Create and calculate the toolpath as normal.
  3. Open Job Setup and swap the Width and Height values so the material orientation is portrait.
  4. Confirm the material thickness is correct.
  5. Select the vectors and press 9 or 0 to rotate them 90 degrees.
  6. Center the vectors in the workspace using the alignment tools.
  7. Go to the Toolpaths tab and click Recalculate.
  8. Preview the toolpath to confirm the cut is now in portrait orientation.
  1. Start with the original landscape job setup and confirm material thickness.
  2. In Job Setup, add a new sheet. This works in Vectric software version 11 or later.
  3. For Sheet 2, enter the inverted width and height values so the sheet is portrait.
  4. Make Sheet 1 active and select the vectors.
  5. Right-click the vectors and choose Copy to Sheet 2.
  6. Go to the Sheets tab and double-click Sheet 2 to make it active.
  7. Select the copied vectors, rotate them 90 degrees, and center them.
  8. Create the same toolpath and click Calculate.
  9. Preview the toolpaths to see both landscape and portrait jobs.

Option 3 — Temporary Rotary Setup to Flip Everything

  1. Start with the original landscape job, with vectors positioned and toolpaths created.
  2. Open Job Setup and choose Rotary.
  3. Set the rotary axis along the Y-axis and tick Flip design.
  4. The job setup and vectors rotate automatically.
  5. With Job Setup still open, switch back to Single-sided.
  6. The vectors remain in the new rotated orientation.
  7. Go to the Toolpaths tab and click Recalculate.
  8. Preview the toolpath. No toolpath recreation is required.
  • Unique width/height numbers make it easier to verify the orientation change.
  • Z zero position and XY datum position do not affect this workflow.
  • Always confirm the material thickness after changing Job Setup values.
  • Rotate vectors using the 9/0 rotate shortcut, then use alignment tools to center them.
  • After any job orientation change, use Recalculate on existing toolpaths instead of creating new ones.
  • The Sheets feature was introduced in version 11. Each sheet is like a separate job within the same file and can have different sizes.
  • Copying toolpaths between sheets is possible but is not covered in this video.
  • In Option 3, if Flip design is not checked, the vectors will not rotate with the job setup.
  • The Rotary setup is only used temporarily; switching back to Single-sided keeps the rotated orientation.
