How to rotate objects in Vectric software | Transforming Objects
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates how to rotate selected objects in Vectric Aspire V12. It covers using the on-screen rotation handle, the dedicated Transform Objects tool, setting pivot points via anchor points or coordinates, and absolute vs. relative rotation modes.
- Select an object with the left mouse button to show the rotation handle at the top.
- Drag the handle to rotate the object interactively, or enter an angle value in the handle’s field and press Enter. Positive values rotate anticlockwise; negative values rotate clockwise.
- Alternatively, open the Transform Objects tool by clicking its icon or pressing
R. - Set the rotation pivot point:
- Click one of the anchor points to place the pivot (shown as a white dot) at that corner or edge.
- Or check Use coordinates and enter X and Y values to position the pivot precisely.
- Click and drag on the object to rotate it around the chosen pivot point.
- Choose the rotation mode:
- Absolute – enter the target angle. The object rotates to that angle; clicking Apply again does nothing since it is already there.
- Relative – enter an angle value to rotate the object by that amount from its current position. Click Apply repeatedly to keep rotating by the same increment. Negative values rotate clockwise.
- To rotate in fixed increments, hold the Alt key while dragging the rotation handle – rotation snaps to 15° steps.
- To move the pivot point freely, click and drag the white pivot dot. Hold Shift while dragging to disable snapping and place it anywhere.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- Positive angle values rotate anticlockwise, negative values rotate clockwise.
- Absolute rotation sets the object to a specific angle, so repeated Apply has no effect.
- Relative rotation is incremental from the current position, so Apply can be used multiple times.
- Hold Alt while rotating for 15° increments.
- Hold Shift while moving the pivot point to bypass snapping.
- The pivot point is indicated by a white dot; its position changes the rotation behavior.
- The
Rkey opens the Rotate Selected Objects tool quickly. - Make sure Use coordinates is checked before entering coordinate values for the pivot.
