How to extend vectors in Vectric software | Editing Objects
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates how to use the Extend tool in Vectric software to extend two open vector lines to their common point of intersection. It also shows practical cleanup examples where traced vectors with sloped or misaligned edges are corrected using the tool.
- Go to the Design tab and open the Edit Objects dropdown.
- Select the Extend tool. The cursor changes to indicate extension mode.
- Hover the mouse pointer over the end of an open vector shape. A dashed preview line shows the extension path.
- Click the left mouse button to lock the first extension line in place.
- Hover the mouse over the other end of the open vector that should meet the first line. The intersection is previewed.
- Click again to extend both vectors to their common intersection point.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- The Extend tool only works with open vector shapes.
- Moving the mouse over different open vector ends dynamically updates the dashed preview line.
- The tool is useful for fixing traced artwork where edges or borders are not perfectly straight.
- In the examples, the user manually node-edited out unwanted corner sections before using the Extend tool to rejoin the remaining open vectors cleanly.
- Clicking without hovering over a valid open vector end will not produce the extension.
