How to set the size of objects in Vectric software | Transforming Objects
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates how to resize objects and vectors in Vectric Aspire V12. It covers direct manipulation with transform handles, the new V12 floating dimension fields, and the dedicated “Set Selected Objects Size” tool, including scaling by value, by percentage, and from selectable anchors.
- Select an object or vector in the 2D or 3D view.
- Resize interactively (optional): Drag any corner or edge transform handle to stretch. Hold Shift while dragging to scale symmetrically from the center.
- Use V12 floating size fields (optional): Click a black anchor handle on the selection bounds, enter an X or Y value, and press Enter to resize that axis.
- Open the dedicated sizing tool: Click the “Set Selected Objects Size” icon in the main toolbar.
- Choose scaling mode:
- Scale Selection – scales the entire selection as one group.
- Scale Items Individually – scales each selected object separately by the same factors.
- Set scaling options:
- Toggle Link X/Y to keep width and height proportional.
- Enter scale factors as a multiplier (e.g.,
0.5), or switch the units to Percentage and enter e.g.50%. - Choose an anchor point (e.g., middle, top left, bottom right) to control the direction of scaling.
- Handle rotated bounds (optional): If the object is rotated, use the job aligned box option to switch between axis-aligned and rotated bounding boxes. The tool will scale according to the active bounds.
- Click Apply to execute the scaling.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- The anchor determines the fixed point during scaling. For example, “top left” scales the object toward the top left; “middle” scales evenly around the center.
- Holding Shift while dragging transform handles scales from the center.
- The floating black anchor fields in V12 let you enter exact X/Y values directly in the 3D view.
- Ctrl+Z will undo scaling changes made via the Set Size tool.
- If you have multiple objects selected, “Scale Selection” scales the whole group together, while “Scale Items Individually” applies the same factor to each object independently.
- The “Job Aligned Box” uses world axes; rotating the object switches to rotated bounds. The selected bounds type affects which dimensions are scaled.
- Percentages are relative to the current size (e.g., scaling from
100%to50%halves the object). - Unchecking Link X/Y allows different horizontal and vertical scale factors.
