Vectric VCarve Version 12 is OUT NOW!
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Version 12 introduces a modernized user interface, enhanced DPI scaling, and a range of new design and toolpath features. It focuses on workflow improvements such as reduced tab switching, new carving/inlay tools, safety zones, and more direct 3D view interaction, primarily aimed at existing customers upgrading from previous versions.
- Updated UI and panel layout – Access both vector and component tools from a single panel; draw and switch between 2D and 3D tools without changing tabs.
- Sketch carving toolpath – Select a high-quality image or 3D model, assign tool and trace-in parameters, then calculate to create a fast, stylistic V-carve toolpath.
- V-Carve inlay toolpath (Pro) – Automatically generate plug and pocket toolpaths, mirror geometry, and assign the plug toolpaths to a separate sheet via a drop-down.
- Keep out zones (Pro) – Draw vectors to define areas the machine must avoid during rapid moves and between cuts; assign them in the toolpath.
- 3D cross-section tool – Click two points on a 3D model to generate a vector cross-section line between them.
- Drawing in the 3D view – Use many drawing tools directly in 3D space; manipulate shape properties using on-screen handles.
- Toggle vectors in 3D view – Press a button to show/hide vector geometry for alignment with the model or simulation.
- Component access from document toolbar – Use the drop-down to switch active levels, adjust visibility/combine modes, and add new levels without leaving the workspace.
- Orthographic view – Toggle perspective off to better align 2D elements over the 3D view, e.g., toolpath components.
- New 3D view control – Use the interactive shape to click faces or drag to orient the job in 3D space.
- View toolbar – Show or hide vectors, bitmaps, toolpaths, and components with one click.
- Sheet switching via toolbar – Add or change sheets directly from the document toolbar drop-down.
- Unified 2D import – Import both vectors and bitmaps from a single import button.
- Live help prompts in 3D view – The software tracks the active tool and gives tips plus links to relevant documentation.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- V-Carve inlay toolpath and keep out zones are only available in Pro versions of the software.
- Sketch carving produces quick, stylistic results but relies on a high-quality source image or 3D model.
- If a toolpath intersects a keep out zone, the software will not allow saving that toolpath.
- Drawing in the 3D view requires toggling vector visibility; this is useful for checking alignment with model or simulation geometry.
- Enhanced DPI scaling makes the interface sharper on high-resolution displays.
- The new view control and orthographic toggle help with exact 2D-over-3D alignment.
- All 2D data imports are now combined into a single button; sheets and component levels are accessible without leaving the main workspace.
- Live help prompts appear only when working in the 3D view; they provide both tips and direct links to documentation.
