How to create a simple sign in Vectric software | Getting Started

This video walks through creating a simple “Welcome to Our Home” plaque from scratch in Vectric software. It covers job setup, drawing and aligning vectors, adding and converting text, creating mounting holes, and preparing to create toolpaths. The workflow applies to Cut2D Desktop/Pro, VCarve Desktop/Pro, and Aspire.

Steps

  1. Create a new file

    • Choose Create a File and set up the job:
      • Single-sided job
      • Job size: 11″ wide × 6″ tall
      • Material thickness: 0.75″ (later measured as 0.755″)
      • Units: inches
      • Zero tool from the top of the material
      • XY datum position: bottom-left corner
    • Click OK.

  2. Draw a rectangle

    • Go to the Create Vectors section and select Draw Rectangle.
    • Draw a rough rectangle in the 3D view.
    • In the edit box, type 10 for width and 4.56 for height, then press Enter.
    • Press Escape to exit.

  3. Center the rectangle

    • Use Align Selected Objects from the Transform Object section.
    • Choose Center in Material, then close the form.

  4. Modify the rectangle corners

    • With the rectangle selected, reopen the rectangle tool.
    • Use the corner handle to create an inward/inverted radius.
    • Type -0.75 and press Enter to apply to all corners.
    • Press Escape.

  5. Create an inner border

    • Use the Offset Tool from the Offset and Layout section.
    • Offset inward 0.325″.
    • Use sharp corners to get clean points on the inner offset.
    • Select the new offset vector.

  6. Add text

    • Tile the 2D and 3D views.
    • Go to Create Vectors > Draw Text.
    • Enter welcome to our home.
    • Choose the Candera font and set it to Bold.
    • Close the text form.
    • Center the text using Align Selected Objects.

  7. Convert text to vectors

    • Select the text, right-click, and choose Convert to Vectors.
    • Click off to deselect. Individual letter curves appear.
    • Marquee-select “welcome” and Group it.
    • Marquee-select “to our home” and Group it.
    • Scale “to our home” down using the Shift key and a corner handle.
    • Nudge it into position with the arrow keys.
    • Marquee-select all text, group it as one object, and re-center it.
    • Scale the whole text group up as needed.

  8. Restore the rectangle shape

    • Select the outer rectangle.
    • Reopen the rectangle tool and select Apply to remove the radius corners.
    • The rectangle returns to a normal rectangular shape because it was still treated as a rectangle object.

  9. Draw mounting holes

    • Select the Draw Circle tool.
    • Set the diameter to 0.125″ (the diameter of the tool to be used for pocketing).
    • In the 3D view, hover over the corner of the inner offset rectangle to use the virtual intersection guides.
