Job Rotation in the Vectric Software
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates three ways to rotate a landscape-oriented Vectric design to match a portrait-oriented piece of material. The methods range from a manual job setup change to using Sheets and a fast rotary job trick, with emphasis on updating toolpaths afterwards.
Method 1: Manual Swap
Section titled “Method 1: Manual Swap”- Open Job Setup.
- Swap the Width and Height dimensions to match your material.
- Select all vectors and rotate them 90 degrees.
- Center the design in the portrait workspace.
- Recalculate all toolpaths.
Method 2: Use Sheets (Vectric v11+)
Section titled “Method 2: Use Sheets (Vectric v11+)”- Leave the original landscape design on Sheet 1.
- Create a new sheet (Sheet 2).
- Set Sheet 2 dimensions to the portrait material size.
- Copy all vectors from Sheet 1 to Sheet 2.
- Rotate the copied vectors 90 degrees.
- Generate new toolpaths for Sheet 2.
Method 3: Rotary Job Shortcut
Section titled “Method 3: Rotary Job Shortcut”- Open Job Setup.
- Change the job type to Rotary temporarily.
- Switch the wrapping axis, for example from Y to X.
- Make sure Flip Design is checked.
- Switch the job type back to Single Sided.
- Notice the entire workspace and design are now rotated.
- Recalculate existing toolpaths.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- Always recalculate or regenerate toolpaths after rotating the job; otherwise the machine will use stale toolpaths.
- Method 2 is best when you need both orientations preserved in one project file.
- The rotary trick is the fastest method, but be careful to temporarily select rotary and then switch back to single sided.
- The Flip Design checkbox is essential for the rotary shortcut to work correctly.
- Use Method 1 for quick, one-off jobs with minimal setup.
