How to wrap text on a curve in Vectric software | Creating Vectors

Overview

This video demonstrates how to wrap text along curves or vectors in Vectric software using the Text on a Curve tool. It covers the main placement/alignment settings, how to edit wrapped text afterward, and a common circular-text workflow where separate lines are wrapped to the top and bottom of a circle.

Steps

1. Select text and curve
   Select the text, then hold Shift and select the curve/vector to wrap the text to.

2. Open Text on a Curve
   Click the Text on a Curve icon. The text will immediately wrap to the selected curve.

3. Adjust text size

   • Maintain text size keeps the original font size.
   • Scale text to fill the curve stretches the text to fill the full curve length and uses the slider to control the fill percentage.

4. Adjust text spacing
   Use the Text spacing slider to increase or decrease character spacing.

5. Set text position relative to the curve
   Choose:

   • Above curve
   • On curve
   • Below curve
   • Text on other side flips the text to the opposite side.
   • Offset distance creates a gap between the text and the curve.

6. Set alignment
   Align the wrapped text to the left, middle, or right along the curve. A blue draggable box can also be used to manually reposition the text.

7. Control text orientation

   • Align to curve makes characters follow the curve.
   • Keep text vertical forces all characters to remain upright regardless of curve shape.

8. Finish or edit
   Close the form to accept the result. The wrapped text remains editable using the normal Draw Text tool, preserving the curve. You can also adjust kerning with the text tool while the wrapped text is selected.

Key Points / Warnings

• Shape text before opening the Text on a Curve form: first select the text, then Shift-select the curve. If the curve is selected first, the form may not behave as expected.
• The vector/curve can be deleted after wrapping without affecting the text.
• Editing wrapped text with the Draw Text tool preserves the curve. However, adding more text may cause the displayed text to shrink in order to fit the original curve. Use Ctrl+Z to undo if this happens.
• The Scale text to fill option can make text appear too small when content is added. Returning to Maintain text size restores the original size.
• For circular layouts:
  1. Right-click the text and choose Text > Break Block Into Lines so each line becomes a separate wrapped object.
  2. Cut the circle into two arcs by using the cut command / pressing C at the top and bottom split points.
  3. Wrap one text line to the top arc and the other to the bottom arc.
  4. If the bottom arc text wraps upside-down or on the wrong side, switch the position settings such as Below curve or Text on other side until the orientation is correct.
• Use the Offset distance setting to separate text from circular/curved vectors cleanly.
• Kerning can still be edited after wrapping by selecting the wrapped text and using the kerning controls in the text tool.
