How to weld, subtract and overlap vectors in Vectric software | Editing Objects
Overview
Section titled “Overview”This video demonstrates how to edit overlapping vectors in Vectric Aspire V12 using the Weld, Subtract, and Overlap tools in the 2D view. It also shows how to apply vector welding to overlapping text to create cleaner letter transitions.
- Select the vectors – Click and drag in the top-left area to create a selection box around the overlapping vectors.
- Use the Weld tool – With multiple vectors selected, click Weld to merge them into a single outline. The outer perimeter is retained, and all internal overlapping sections are removed.
- Use the Subtract tool – Select two vectors, with the first vector being the one you want to keep. Click Subtract to remove the area where the second vector overlaps the first.
- Use the Overlap tool – With two vectors selected, click Overlap to keep only the region where they intersect. If more than two vectors are selected, the tool keeps all segments where overlaps occur.
- Apply welding to text – Toggle between layers to select overlapping text. Select the text vectors and click Weld. Confirm the warning prompt, then choose Replace to convert the text into welded vector curves.
- Check the result – The text letters now transition smoothly into each other with no overlapping edges.
Key Points / Warnings
Section titled “Key Points / Warnings”- Order matters for Subtract – The second selected vector is subtracted from the first.
- Text is converted to curves when using Weld on text objects. A warning appears before proceeding.
- Replace vs. Keep – When the warning appears, Replace converts the original text into welded vectors; Keep preserves the original text objects.
- Overlap keeps only the intersecting sections of selected vectors, not the full outer shape.
- After welding text, the result is no longer editable as text – it becomes standard vector curves.
